SHOW OPENING RECEPTION
Saturday, Sept 17th 2-4 p.m.
The Craft Council Gallery invites you to attend the opening reception of its two new Fall exhibitions: Waking Dreams by textiles artist Rachel Ryan in the Main Gallery and Transpositions by metalsmith Donald Stuart in the Annex Gallery. Both artists will be present and all are welcome to this free, public event. The event begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17th at the Craft Council Gallery on 59 Duckworth Street.

WAKING DREAMS
Rachel Ryan
Main Gallery

Ethereal landscapes by textile artist Rachel Ryan hint at the mysterious “other world” that exists as we sleep. The textile art of Rachel Ryan is admired for its exacting technique and the sophistication of its design but it is always remembered for what it reveals on closer inspection. Rachel brings the improbable and the picturesque to her own brand of surrealism in textiles, blurring the boundaries of fact and fiction. She works with a fine control of fabric collage, drawing and stitched imagery.

TRANSPOSITIONS
Donald Stuart
Annex Gallery

An exhibition of unique jewellery and hollowware of gold/silversmith Donald Stuart. As one of Canada’s leading gold/silversmiths, Donald Stuart has earned an international reputation for his jewellery and hollowware. During his celebrated career, Stuart has participated in countless exhibitions and many one-man shows. Stuart was awarded the Order of Canada in 2002 in recognition of his illustrious career as a craftsman and educator and his profound influence on Canada’s arts and crafts industry.

These two exhibitions will run September 17 through October 30, 2011.
