For the first time ever, The Independent has printed merchandise with both the Newfoundland Republic and Labrador flags on it — a change we made to our masthead three years ago to acknowledge and respect the identity and autonomy of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people living in the mainland portion of our province.
Now, as part of our ongoing efforts to fundraise and make The Independent a sustainable, non-profit independent media outlet, we have printed a limited first run of American Apparel (ethically-made) t-shirts through local St. John’s business Living Planet.
The shirts come in various sizes (S, M, L, XL — in both unisex and women’s fit), and only 100 are available until, and if, we print a second run. So first come, first serve for now. They are $27.50 each and all proceeds go to The Independent.
For now shirts are available exclusively at Broken Books—Newfoundland’s treasured independent book store—at 183A Duckworth Street in St. John’s. Those unable to purchase a shirt in St. John’s can send an email to advertising (at) theindependent (dot) ca to arrange shipping and payment online. The cost of shipping will be dependent on your location, and again, t-shirts are subject to availability and offered on a first come, first serve basis.
