‘Not in my backyard’ – Paradise residents over treatment centre

in Daily Indygestion/Email Indygestion/Journalism by

More than 60 people attended a public meeting in Paradise Monday night to try to halt plans to put a treatment centre for mentally ill youth in their town. Health officials want to put the centre at the site of the former Paradise Elementary school, where about a dozen young people with complex mental health problems would be served. But the Paradise residents say that they don’t want the facility in the neighbourhood, and cut off health and town officials as they tried to speak at a two-hour meeting. The CBC reports that the group also didn’t want the media covering what they had to say – and no wonder… it doesn’t look good on them.
