Long-time Canadian Coast Guard employee Merv Wiseman said there are enough questions to justify an independent analysis into resources and services, including the federal Conservatives’ decision to close the Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre. Wisemen is suggesting the Newfoundland and Labrador government should launch its own public inquiry into the matter. “It’s an opportunity now for the provincial government to step up to the plate,” said Wiseman, a shop steward who represents employees at the centre that’s slated to close next June.
