Thousands of people were without power Monday morning in Atlantic Canada after a fierce weekend snow and rain storm with lashed New Brunswick and Nova Scotia before coming to Newfoundland and Labrador. Nova Scotia’s power utility said there were more than 10,000 homes and businesses without power Monday morning in various parts of the province. In New Brunswick, the peak of the storm left about 3,400 homes without power. Though there haven’t been mass power outages in Newfoundland and Labrador, there has been violent weather. Gander has received about 15 centimetres of snow, Deer Lake has accumulated about 11 centimetres, and Stephenville has about 10 centimetres of snow. Snow, rain and high winds are creating some nasty conditions for a large portion of the island for the rest of the day.
