Saturday afternoon three hikers, looking for a shortcut to a main trail, became stranded on a steep cliff. Linda Stacey happened to be walking by on the Red Head trail in Flatrock, and heard the cries for help. “I thought for sure they were going to fall at any point”. Stacey said one of the men was stranded about three quarters up a 60-metre cliff. “As we were watching, rocks were falling as we were talking to him, and they kept saying they couldn’t hold on much longer.” Stacey used her cellphone to call for assistance, which arrived in 10 minutes. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s high-angle rescue team was able to pull the men to safety. “If we weren’t there, they would have been gone, for sure,” Stacey said.
