A 17-year-old from Port Hope Simpson allegedly stole a pickup truck and later crashed into a police vehicle that had pulled him over on Sunday. Charges he’ll face: impaired driving, possession of stolen property, assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, dangerous driving and resisting arrest. Just after 10 p.m. yesterday, the RCMP in Mary’s Harbour received a complaint of the stolen pickup from the fire brigade in Port Hope Simpson. About one hour later, police saw the stolen vehicle approaching on Route 510, about 10 kilometres north of Port Hope Simpson. Police say when they activated emergency lights, the driver of the stolen pickup stopped, but started again and drove into the front end of the police cruiser causing minor damage to both vehicles. He’s scheduled to appear today in provincial court in Goose Bay.
