Cory Collins from Memorial’s MUSE gives a brief background of Newfoundland and Labrador party politics, and asks if an anticipated surge in provincial NDP voting this time around will be for the right reasons. “Lorraine Michael has previously declared herself a true socialist, a far cry from the conservative progressive self-designation of her Nova Scotia counterpart, Darrell Dexter. She would almost certainly agree that if she and other candidates succeed based on a narrow platform of personal appeal, integrity, and leadership, the actually existing left interests in the province will have been betrayed. Ultimately, it is still unclear what role moderation and personalization will play in any future NDP growth.” Be sure to check out the interesting read over at the MUSE.
