In a rare moment of the capital city’s rocky road of evolution, the Newfoundland Historic Trust actually announced it is “pleased” with a proposal from Fortis to build a 12-story office tower downtown. The organization praises Fortis for aiming for “the highest environmental and energy efficiency standards” and is “content to see the new office tower on a suitable location zoned for that use, knowing it will greatly contribute to the area.” This support from unexpected quarters, in combination with the public’s uncharacteristic quietness on the development, may just mean Fortis learned a great deal from their attempts in 2009 to build on the other end of Water street.
