In the 84th year of the Tely 10 mile road race, the event has a record number of participants; according to the Newfoundland and Labrador Athletic Association (NLAA) website, 3,050 people are set to take part in this year’s event. This is the latest evidence that St. John’s citizens are becoming more active – a good sign for the city which is continuously rated as one of the unhealthiest in the country. There are no plans yet for The Independent to start its own rival road race, but stay tuned.
