A group of concerned citizens in Central Newfoundland in Brown’s Arm say that their lack of access to high speed internet is creating a disadvantage to both businesses and individuals in the area. Residents in Browns’ Arm only have access to dial-up internet, as they have since the 1990’s. There have been numerous federal and provincial initiatives over the years to expand high speed access to rural areas in the country, however part of the problem lies in the fact that progress depends on the resources and willingness of the telecommunications companies partnering with the government. We here at TheIndependent.ca support greater access to high speed internet, though our opinion may be biased.
