A beloved piece of history in the form of a ferry, The Joseph and Clara Smallwood, is scheduled to make its final voyage. The Marine Atlantic vessel has put in more than 20 years of service between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Its scheduled to leave North Sydney, N.S., for the final time tonight (Wednesday night), followed by a final sailing out of Port aux Basques, N.L., on Thursday morning. As part of Marine Atlantic’s fleet modernization, they are selling both ferries Caribou and Smallwood over the coming months. They’ll be replaced by two newer vessels, the Blue Puttees and the Highlanders.
