St. John’s South – Mount Pearl MP Ryan Cleary, despite being invited to 9 Wing Gander by military officials, has found himself being denied access to the base by the Defence Minister Peter McKay – who says that his presence would cause too much of a “undoubtedly detract from the high operational tempo of this important facility”. Cleary, who has been a harsh critic of the services Ottawa has mustered in Gander for Search and Rescue, hoped to visit the base to get a first hand experience of how the base operated. He urges anyone from 9 Wing Gander who may have questions or information for him to be in touch.
