The Newfoundland offshore petroleum regulator doesn’t expect “significant adverse environmental effects” from a proposed drilling program in the Gulf of St. Lawrence next year. But due to environmental concerns expressed by the public, it is recommending that Ottawa set up a special panel to take a closer look. Corridor Resources Inc. of Halifax has applied to drill on the Old Harry block, but believes a special panel is not warranted and that the current screening process would adequately address all environmental issues.Nova Scotia’s The Chronicle Herald takes a detailed look into the issues at play.
