Convent closing in Grand Falls

“When I came here in 1998 we had eight sisters and five of them have died,” Sister Connie Power told the CBC. St. Joseph’s Convent, 70 years old, is due to be demolished. Valuables such as the piano and stained glass windows will be removed first. Two of the three remaining nuns in the convent are being relocated to St. Catherine’s Renewal Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, while the other is going to Avondale. “It’s very sad to see the convent closing. I’ve lived in it for 13 years and it’s going to be a period of letting go for me,” said Sister Connie Power, who has packed up and moved her personal belongings.
