Dust becoming major concern at Labrador mine

The crusher area at the IOC mine in Labrador City has been declared hazardous by the provincial government after it was discovered that in several areas dust levels were recorded to be 10 times the normal allowable amount. A stop-work order was issued on March 31, but according to the union, the order just means that workers will continue to work but are using the greatest level respiratory protection. Zoe Yujnovich, president and CEO of IOC, said the company is actively working to ensure safety of employees, and to stop spread of dust at the site.
