Meanwhile a special forum on the fishery, which took place in St. John’s last night, produced a decidedly non-partisan and intelligent debate. The debate – sponsored by the Fisheries Community Alliance and featuring Ryan Cleary, Gerry Byrne, and Fabian Manning – impressed both audience members and organizers with its intelligent, thoughtful, and meaningful tone. Gus Etchegary, the head of the Alliance, says the forum was the start of a deliberate process to help educate the public about the fishery.
