Corner Brook Pride 2011 was going to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered community and its supporters on Newfoundland’s west coast with a flag raising at City Hall, a parade in the city’s downtown and a number of parties. However organizer Christian Corbet said a lack of co-operation from municipal and police officials forced his group to cancel events scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Corbet says he had difficulty working with the city in planning the events, could not get a response from the RNC for support, and had trouble finding volunteers for the events. Corbet’s focus is shifting to figuring out what his group can do for Corner Brook Pride 2012.
