Lobster licence retirement program beginning

The Telegram is reporting that the first round of bidding has been announced for the lobster licence retirement program. The program was created to improve the income of fish harvesters and the economic viability of the lobster fishery in the long term; it is giving some fishermen “an opportunity to voluntarily sell their lobster licence and retire their fishing enterprise”. The closing date for the first round of bidding is Jan. 14.
