Mayday rally makes its point

More than 1,000 people were on the St. John’s waterfront Saturday morning ranting and roaring at a rally to try to keep the St. John’s Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre. Yet, while all of the podium speakers in some way suggested Newfoundlanders and Labradorians would be put at risk because of the centre’s closure, the federal government has stated that is not the case… and making matters worse Newfoundland and Labrador’s only Conservative MP, Peter Penashue, has said he has been convinced safety will not be compromised by closing the MRSC, and supports the move. It remains to be seen what impact, if any, the demonstration will have with the federal government.
