Speed not a factor in fatal crash

Police in St. John’s believe that speed was probably not a cause of a collision Tuesday in which an out-of-control vehicle struck and killed a highway worker. A middle-aged man was killed on the edge of the Outer Ring Road when a sport utility vehicle lost control and veered off the highway. “Although early in the investigation, it does not appear that speed was a factor, but a mechanical inspection of the vehicle and analysis of the accident investigation evidence will make the final determination,” Const. Suzanne FitzGerald of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
