St. John’s Mayor, Dennis O’Keefe, has been admitted to the Health Sciences Center, and will likely undergo open heart surgery later this week. O’Keefe collapsed on Thursday after he took a routine stress test, but was revived quickly with CPR and a defibrillator, and he told CBC reporters that he “now feels fine and is awaiting a decision expected to be made Tuesday on what course of treatment will be taken.” Deputy Mayor Shannie Duff will take over as acting mayor during O’Keefe’s absence.
