Town’s water system under pressure

… or lack of. There is worry in Elliston that low water pressures in the town have become a public safety issue. Pressure concerns came to light yesterday after firefighters attempted to hook into a fire hydrant to battle a residential fire, which eventually destroyed a home and displaced its 11 occupants, with little success; the hydrant was virtually useless to them. Town councillors say that Elliston has been under considerable pressure from the provincial government to fix or replace its system, but is also dealing with a massive debt.
