In a curiosity of numbers, despite the fact Newfoundland and Labrador consistently has one of the lowest voter turnout rates in the country, we at the same time lead Atlantic Canada in census participation rates. In the federal government’s continued shift to online services, Statistics Canada is now pushing its online response option for the 2011 census, hoping to double its success in 2006 to achieve an online response rate of 40 percent. Initial results from the census will be available in February of 2012, but complete results typically take 2.5 years to come to light.
