After several St. John’s city councillors have mused about looking into banning the sale of after-market motorcycle exhaust systems – some of which are designed to make motorcycles louder – the cyclists rallied. More than two dozen motorcyclists were at St. John’s City Hall Tuesday night to speak out against such a proposed ban on loud motorcycle exhaust systems. “We understand that there are people out there that are going downtown, cracking their pipes trying to make noise,” she said. “We believe very strongly that they should be ticketed but because there’s a few idiots out there, don’t try to target motorcyclists across Newfoundland and Labrador,” she said. Both sides want the province to weigh in on the issue. Source: CBC

Molly Nelson, a tourist from Maine on her Yamaha motorcycle, was brought to tears when her vacation to Newfoundland abruptly seemed to come to an end earlier this week when her motorcycle was stolen. But Nelson made public pleas through the media asking to get her bike back, and it appears that even the thieves in this province have a heavy heart. “It was totally like in the movies, the guy kind of had a rough voice ‘I know where your bike is’ and the guy said you better go for it right now. So I said alrighty then,” Nelson said. Her bike doesn’t look the same.
