Keep an eye on these key ridings tonight as the results start coming in
Candidates quickly set aside political differences and aspirations last night Clarenville when a man collapsed during an all-candidate’s forum. The Telegram has confirmed that the man, Wilson Wiseman, believed to be in his 60s, is the campaign manager for Environment Minister Ross Wiseman, the Progressive Conservative incumbent. There is no word yet on his condition. One of the first people offering help was NDP hopeful Vanessa Wiseman, a licensed practical nurse. The debate was immediately called off. The campaign hasn’t even started yet, but you can still vote. The general vote itself is still a long way off but Elections Newfoundland and Labrador says the dates to vote by special ballot are August 22nd to October 4th – a process generally reserved for those who do not believe they will be able to vote on October 11th. Federal Liberal MP Gerry Byrne is calling for Premier Kathy Dunderdale to delay the timing of the Fall election for one month to give all parties a fair chance – saying that Yvonne Jones’ unfortunate resignation could not have been predicted and that it is the ‘democratic’ thing to do. Source: VOCM
