EVENT: ‘Ready or not, AI is HERE’

Last November The Independent broke the story that a $1.6-million provincial healthcare report from accounting firm Deloitte contained AI-generated errors in the form of fake citations. It wasn’t the first time Newfoundland and Labrador had the experience; its new Education Accord also contained errors likely generated by AI.

The impacts of AI involvement in government reports has been downplayed by Deloitte and the government itself, but there are significant implications for the rapid evolution, use and reliance on Artificial Intelligence — not only in the public sector but in many aspects of our lives.

The Independent is proud to present “Ready or not, AI is HERE,” a hybrid in-person and virtual event hosted by Indy Editor-in-Chief Justin Brake in conversation with tech journalist and podcaster Paris Marx, host of Tech Won’t Save Us.

Brake and Marx will weigh in on AI in government reports, expanding on The Independent’s investigative series, and the pair will discuss the ways AI is impacting our lives in 20216.
