Terry Bursey

Terry (T.C.) Bursey is a freelance journalist, author, chef and Autism self-advocate from Dover, Newfoundland and Labrador. A former food columnist for Saltwire and news reporter with Kingstonist, their career spans two biweekly food columns in Newfoundland and Labrador: The Food Dude and spinoff column Getting Grilled, plus over 100 news articles published by independent media outlets in Ontario. A budding essayist, Terry also produced a piece for CBC Arts’ Emerging Queer Voices about writing as an Autistic and socially-disabled person. They’re also the author of the Newfoundland science-fiction bookTerra Nova: New Earth, as well as the collection of short stories that expand its lore, Terra Nova: New Stories, both of which feature authentic Neurodiverse representation and a format (created by Bursey) to accommodate neurodivergent readers. Through writing and public speaking, Terry advocates for accessibility, neurodiversity and more inclusive storytelling, with a particular focus on strengthening public understanding of neurodiversity and softening social accountability against neurodiverse and/or socially-disabled people.
