It was announced today that the federal government is providing over $1.9 million to our province for two crime prevention projects. Currently visiting our capital is Public Safety Minister Vic Toews, who says the projects, designed to help at-risk individuals, will provide alternatives to a life of crime, substance abuse and violence. The Nunatsiavut government is getting $1.24 million for a community project aimed at helping about 150 at-risk individuals and their parents or caregivers in the communities of Nain, Hopedale, Natuashish and Sheshatshiu. And the YMCA is getting $691,000 for a program aimed at reintegrating suspended or temporarily-expelled students back into school and addressing their behavioural issues.
