Dunderdale warns about new civil service contracts

Premier Kathy Dunderdale has served notice to Newfoundland and Labrador’s civil servants that another large pay increase won’t be in the cards once their current contracts expire. The last four-year contract saw civil servants receive a 21.5% increase in salary, with an 8% raise in the first year alone – but Dunderdale says that the next contract can’t be nearly as lucrative. “Our spending at the rate that we’ve been doing over the last eight years — and it has been very necessary for a number of very good reasons to do that — is not sustainable in the long run,” Dunderdale told the CBC.
