A group of more than 750 fishermen have finally won their long tax battle with the Canada Revenue Agency. In 1999, some of the fishermen who were voluntarily selling their licenses to the federal government were allegedly given false information on how to incorporate that transaction in their tax returns – resulting in large losses for the group when compared to their peers who were given correct information. Refunds will be for different amounts but some people may receive up to $50,000. This represents the end of a decade-long fight for many fishermen.
