The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board has ordered an independent review of Corridor Resources Inc.’s proposed exploratory drilling program in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Halifax-based company’s plans for the Old Harry site near the Iles-de-la-Madeleine have angered environmental groups who say drilling should not be allowed in a sensitive marine area. The N-NLOPB has appointed former New Brunswick ombudsman Bernard Richard to consider the potential environmental effects of drilling a single exploration well. The board says Richard’s review will include public consultations in the five provinces that surround the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
