The new central Newfoundland regional landfill is expected to open in early 2012, and so by the end of February all the towns between Grand Falls-Windsor and Gander will be bringing their trash directly to the Norris Arm site. As a result of the centralization of garbage collection in the region, 42 smaller dumps will be closed. Officials say construction at the Norris Arm site will be finished before the end of November and seven garbage transfer stations around the region are almost ready to go.
