A Portuguese sailor was in hospital Friday morning with bones likely broken in his face, after an assault outside a downtown bar in St. John’s overnight. A bartender found him on Duckworth Street shortly after closing. The RNC said the sailor was intoxicated and the language barrier made it difficult to communicate with him. There were people in the area when the assault happened, but whoever hit the man had disappeared before police arrived.
