Tent City for Change (Ep. 1)

Justin Brake spends two nights at Tent City for Change in St. John’s, where resident protesters are bracing for the season’s first snowfall. “Mandy” and “Sophie” share their experiences with homelessness. Meanwhile, on National Housing Day in Canada public pressure on politicians is mounting. The provincial government strikes a task force on homelessness but NL Human Rights Commission Executive Director Carey Majid says we “need to go deeper” and recognize housing as the human right it is. Does the provincial government agree with the United Nations and the federal government that adequate housing is a human right?
In this episode, Brake speaks with Tent City for Change resident protesters, volunteers and housing advocates, the head of the NL Human Rights Commission, and provincial NDP Leader Jim Dinn.
