Today, the Labrador Metis will go to court in an effort to halt environmental assessment hearings into the proposed Lower Churchill project. Our province’s Supreme Court will hear an application for an injunction that was filed last week by the NunatuKavut Community Council. The environmental hearings began last week, and the community council has expressed it’s being excluded from discussions on the development of Muskrat Falls. Ross Wiseman, Newfoundland’s environment minister, said filing the injunction seems counter to the aboriginal group’s goals. He said the purpose of the hearings is to give individuals who will be affected by the development an opportunity to submit comments.
