The Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (which most of us know as the MMSB) is joining with several municipalities in offering backyard compost bins at a reduced rate. They will also be providing instruction on composting. According to Environment Minister Ross Wiseman, organic waste makes up about 40 per cent of the total waste stream coming from homes. He says money, time and resources can be saved by municipalities by reducing the amount of waste that goes to the curb and landfills. Participating municipalities agree to order a minimum of 50 compost bins at $21.99 a pop. Then people who live in that area can buy the bins right from their town/city after completing a training session.
