Eastern Health is scrambling to put together a plan to provide care for women in the Carbonear area after both obstetrics and gynecology specialists there quit. One of Carbonear’s two obstetrics and gynecology specialists resigned in January. The other is due to leave in October. Dr. John Guy, the health authority’s director of medical services, said the loss of the two doctors “diminishes” the quality of care, but he doesn’t expect it will result in any significant adverse affects for patients in the area. The health authority hopes to have a contingency plan in place before the end of the month.
