Grade 4 teacher Carla Brake said that Pasadena Elementary started its naturalization project, “Naturalizing our School, Inside and Out “, on the outside with the beautification of the schoolyard. This has included a new school sign, flower beds, a nature trail around the school and an outdoor classroom. She said on nice days teachers can take the students out to the outdoor classroom to do their work. But now, thanks to a $5,000 grant from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Canada’s Green Community Schools Grant Program, it can do more. Brake says the project will now include the whole school and she is making plans for every grade level to get involved. Brake learned of the WWF grant program through an email sent out by the Western School District. She did some research on it and decided to apply. “We had to lay out the plans of our project and everything we wanted to do,” she said of the application process.
