Brad Gushue is doing quite well in London at the Tim Hortons Brier. He beat Kevin Martin 9-4 last night, bringing the Alberta skip’s Brier winning streak to an end at 30 games. After Monday’s eighth draw, Jeff Stoughton of Manitoba held first place at 5-0, followed by three other top playoff contenders — Gushue’s Newfoundland and Labrador champs, Martin and Ontario’s Glenn Howard — all tied at 4-1. For a while, it looked as if neither of the Olympic gold medallists (Gushue and Martin) wanted to claim superiority. “It was a real big win,” Gushue said. “I felt I had a better read on the ice. It was still a little bit tricky, but it was a 100 per cent improvement.”
