Man in custody following alleged abduction

A man in his early 40s is in custody following an alleged abduction yesterday. Wednesday afternoon the RNC were called to Princess Auto in the east end of St. John’s. According to spokesperson Const. Suzanne Fitzgerald, it was reported that a young woman and man were leaving the area together in a suspicious manner. Police were led to believe the young woman was in the Long Harbour area. “The RNC then received further information … that a Good Samaritan in the area of the Trans-Canada Highway … had come across a woman who needed medical attention,” said Fitzgerald. The 20-year-old woman is being treated for minor injuries, and police have determined that she was a possible abduction victim. Police also say while there was no public safety concern, weapons were involved.
