Muskrat Falls protest planned today

A protest over the Muskrat Falls development is planned to take place this afternoon in Labrador. A group unhappy about the prospect of a dam being built across the Churchill River will be demonstrating at Hotel North Two at noon. Natural Resources Minister Shawn Skinner says the development will be of great benefit to the entire province, especially Labrador. Skinner told VOCM that he expects the development will bring a substantial amount of employment to the area. He also said if all goes according to plan, the project will require 1,200 people working on-site over the construction period and employment will peak at 2,700 jobs in 2013. Skinner claims Labrador will see a great deal of revenue from the project, and feels that those who think the people of Labrador will not reap the benefits are wrong.
