Province agrees on recommendation of independent offshore safety board

Natural Resources Minister Shawn Skinner says that his government agrees in principle with Commissioner Robert Wells’ recommendation to create an independent board responsible for offshore safety – but warns that it won’t be as easy as it sounds. Natural Resources Minister Shawn Skinner says in order to make changes, the provincial government has to consult with the federal government and open up the framework concerning the offshore regulator set out in the Atlantic Accord. That, he says, will take some time.
