Man flip-flops on decision to run; Liberals short 1 candidate

Phillip Mullins decided yesterday morning that he wanted to run for the Liberal party in Mount Pearl North. By the afternoon he had been approved by the party, and was the selected candidate, ready to go for the election in 2 weeks time. “I am officially the liberal candidate for Mt. Pearl North!” he tweeted. By dinner time, he had pulled out of the race. “After talking with my family and considering the personal and work commitments I have, I will be declining the nomination for Mt. Pearl [North].” That leaves the Liberal Party 1 candidate short of the full 48-riding slate, with just two days to go until registration closes. At this point, the Liberals will be searching for any name to put on the ballot; Mount Pearl North is strong PC territory and the party doesn’t realistically expect to have a chance there.

Perhaps the Liberals are hoping for some last minute Ruth Ellen Brosseau -styled wins ;)

  2. Kieran Hanley says:

Yes, that being said though – it is a strategy undertaken by all political parties. For example, in the Federal election the Green party had candidates registered in our province that didn’t live here and never stepped foot here for the entire election. Better to have any ol’ name on the ballot than nothing!

I was reading that last night while I was updating my blog and thought to myself that maybe he watched Kevin Aylward’s performance on the debate and gave his head a shake.

My riding of Cape St Francis had a Liberal candidate shoved into it yesterday too, when I checked to see who she was I found that she was the same candidate that ran against David Brazil in the by-election for CBE – Bell Island. she is a Liberal staffer and I guess part of your job if you are a Liberal staffer is to stick your name on a ballot when ever needed…..What a Joke.
